Welcome to the Magdalen and Lasher Charity Website
Founded in the thirteenth century, The Magdalen and Lasher Charity has been assisting families and schools in the Borough of Hastings since that time.
Under the Scheme authorised by the Charity Commission, The Magdalen and Lasher Charity has the following objectives:-
- The prevention and relief of poverty and the relief of old age among persons living in or near the Borough of Hastings (Beneficiaries) by the following means:
- The provisions and maintenance in Hastings of a care home for elderly Beneficiaries and other elderly persons who have a family or other connection with Hastings; and
- The provision of financial assistance or material help to needy Beneficiaries in other ways including the support of other charities engaged in similar work in Hastings
- The land and buildings belonging to the Charity known as Old Hastings House (or any property acquired in its place) must be used for charitable purposes in accordance with the Objects
- The Charity’s income may be used in supplementing provision from public funds but must not replace it.
